Nothing screams “summer!” quite as much as the color yellow. The color oozes rays of warmth from the summer sun, blooming flowers along the streets, and a certain mood associated with a widely renowned carefree time of year.
Lately, my everyday outfit formula has consisted of a plethora of neutral tones. I’m not quite sure whether this is because of my status as a New Yorker (it’s true-New Yorkers wear a lot of black), or if it’s because I’ve just gotten lazy in response to my workload as a part-time student and employee this summer.
Whichever one it is, my new favorite easy outfit formula is pairing a brightly colored statement piece with an otherwise neutral outfit. For this look, I wore a black Reformation tank with a denim mini-skirt (similar Kuyichi skirt here) and maroon Aldo flats (similar Everlane slingbacks here). For my statement piece, I added this bright yellow blazer that I stole from my previous roommate before she sold it (thanks Elle!). Oversized blazers are trending this season as they take any outfit from plain to business casual. Although this blazer is originally from Forever 21, it’s new life in my closet renders the product as sustainable…in fact it’s more sustainable than buying a blazer from an eco-friendly brand because by reusing an existing product, there’s less production of more clothing and, therefore, less waste.
